Pressed for Words

Yesterday morning, after I finished my Morning Pages and a few book keeping tasks, I logged into Older Eyes – Bud’s Blog to take a one last look at my Monday post before publishing it and to see if I’d had any comments on my Sunday post, Sunday Funnies.   Usually, it’s a good day if I have two or three comments the day after posting and it’s not unusual for it to take a few days for my small cadre of regular readers to turn up.   But this time, my WordPress Dashboard showed 21 comments awaiting moderation.   Oh, %#$*&, I thought, I’ve been spammed … but when I took a peek at a few of the comments, they were legitimate.   My eyes wandered to my Stats and I saw that I had over 600 views for the day so far.   Yikes.  Yippee!

On a hunch, I took a look at the WordPress.com home page and there it was … Sunday Funnies had been Freshly Pressed.  Now, if you’re not a WordPress blogger, you may not know what that is.   Every day, the WordPress editorial staff selects ten or so posts from the roughly half a million new posts that appear each day to headline their home page in the Freshly Pressed section.  As it says on the WordPress post, Five Ways to Get Featured on Freshly Pressed, Getting promoted to Freshly Pressed is a major traffic win because WordPress.com receives a high volume of page views. And, we have a feed set up so people can subscribe to Freshly Pressed. Why do we do all this? It’s our way of saying we like you. We really like you. Thank you, thank you WordPress.  It is good to be liked.   And as much as I write for myself and appreciate the ten to forty views I get per day, it was an absolute rush to get over 1500 views on Monday … and over fifty comments.

In my September 25 post, Comments on Comments, I committed to responding to every comment left on Older Eyes – Bud’s Blog and I’ve stuck with my commitment until now.   But I didn’t expect to be responding to fifty  in a day… but respond, I will, even if it takes a few days.   Thanks to those new readers who stopped by.   I’ll try to stop by your blogs soon and I hope to see you again here.  And thanks again to WordPress, the best place to blog.

Congratulations! I’ve had a crazy week and am just starting to catch up. I’m sorry I missed your big day on THE day! Then again.. that probably doesn’t surprise you. I’m always just a bit behind schedule!

HA! Just went to read your famous post and found that I must have actually read that one on the day it was posted because I was the first comment!

How exciting for you though! Congrats again!
