Monday Smiles – 11/21/2011

OK.   Let’s summarize the weekend.  Friday night, errands.   Saturday, Morning Pages in the park then a walk with Muri (which ended up in my Saturday post, Heads Up).   Saturday night, date night postponed so that I could watch my USC Trojans defeat number 4 Oregon.   Sunday, post Service for a Smile, then head off for an afternoon at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena … dinner at the Spaghetti Factory in Duarte.   Nice, huh?

Hold it.  Did you hear that?  My USC Trojans beat the Number Four Oregon Ducks!   After three years of listening to Oregon fans quacking about the Quack Attack … after watching that annoying duck mascot doing push ups after every Oregon touchdown (and there have been a bunch of them) … after three years of NCAA sanctions … we are back.   It wasn’t easy … Older Eyes’ Older Heart almost couldn’t stand the excitement.   We were ahead 31-14 in the third quarter when Oregon began one of their frentic comebacks.  It began with a 96 yard kick-off return, then a second long drive for Oregon.  Then our quarterback, Matt Barkley threw his first interception of the game, leading to another Oregon touchdown.   38-35.   My Trojans began a long, time consuming drive but just when it appeared we’d put the game away, we fumbled on the 11 yard line.  My poor heart.   Oregon moved to the 27 yard line then attempted a 37 yard field goal.  Here’s what happened:

Halle-freakin-lujah.   Sorry non-sports fans.  The other Bud will be back tomorrow … I’ll even post about the Norton Simon Museum at some point.  But for now … it’s Monday.  I’m smiling.  Fight On.
