1,000

According to my Good Buddy, Wikipedia, the decimal representation for one thousand is 1,000—a one followed by three zeros, in the general notation ; 1 × 103—in engineering notation, which for this number coincides with : 1 × 103 exactly—in scientific normalized exponential notation ; 1 E+3 exactly—in scientific E notation.  The accepted prefix for a thousand is kilo-, officially abbreviated as k—for instance prefixed to meter or its abbreviation m, we get kilometer or km signifying a thousand meters.  We techies replace the last three zeros of the number in the thousands with k, as in, I’ll give you $30k for your used Porsche, meaning $30,000.   1,000 is a very useful number.  For example, there’s:

1,000 Years (1 × 103 Years)

1,000 Dollars ($1K)

1,000 Posts (One Kilopost)

This little celebration of the number 1,000 comes on the occasion of my 1,000th post.  I don’t know whether you can tell from the outside looking in, but my posting has felt a little stale from this side of the keyboard lately.   So, in the spirit of my 995th post, Taking a Break, I’m going to take a few days off.   Few, as in, undefined small number.  I may repost a few old favorites or I may not.  Thanks for coming by … I’ll see you in a few days.
