Muri and I are here in Arizona, here for the holidays. It is an auspicious occasion, my friend Phil tells me … this conjunction of Hanukkah and Thanksgiving will not occur for another 70,000 years. But, of course, what makes any visit to Arizona an auspicious occasion for me is being here with my grandkids. More than just seeing my grandkids, it being able to attend their school functions and spend the holidays with them is a one of the greatest gifts of my senior years. This week we attended Reed’s Fine Dining lunch at his school, then Maddux’s Thanksgiving Day feast. We got to spend time with each of them, then celebrate Thanksgiving together. Tonight, we brought them back to our Little House to celebrate Hanukkah, lighting the menorah and playing endless games of dreidel. Talk about things to be thankful for. And now, they are curled up in The Kids’ Room , fast asleep. I don’t know how we’ll keep them amused all day tomorrow but we’ll come up with something. Older Eyes is a happy man … and time with the grandkids in Nana and Papa’s house is this Friday’s favorite.

Happy Hanukkah, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Days with Grandchildren! Great combination, isn’t it? I’ve had my two younger grandkids here for the past week now and even with the little annoying squabbles they have, it was still so nice to have both of them here to pester me and also, to just be here for me to be able to spend time with them again! They were only supposed to be here originally for last weekend, as Maya was to sing at church in the Children’s Choir Sunday so I picked them up at our “halfway” spot last Friday but on Sunday, the weather wasn’t very nice and I don’t particularly like driving across what is referred to around these hills as “Seven Mountains” -a 3-4 mile descent of curves and curves and more curves and it’s also a truck route plus there was a home football game at Penn State last Saturday so that would make it even worse with all that traffic. So as a result of the kids only having school scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, their mother joked that they could spend the whole week here and before she had a chance to think about that any further and change her mind, I jumped at that opportunity! Gonna miss them bunches after they leave now on Sunday!

Glad to see the smiles. I presume you’ve seen the Gobble Tov meme…?

Yes, the visit went very well considering. I hadn’t seen the meme but I’ll take a look.
