Friday Favorites – 9/12/2014
It is almost 3:00 pm in the afternoon. On Friday. And once again, I’m having trouble coming up with a Friday Favorite. Oh, I’ve come up with a few ideas but upon searching the Older Eyes – Bud’s Blog archives, they’ve been done before. After almost four years … 201 posts … I think this well is dry. It’s not that there aren’t things I like enough to post about, I just don’t like them enough to call them a Favorite. So, I’m making an executive … maybe an executive editor … decision. This will be the last Friday Favorite, leaving only one theme day on Bud’s Blog, that being Monday Smiles. It’s one thing to run out of favorites … running out of smiles would be a sad day indeed. So this will be a Friday Favorites retrospective.
The first Friday Favorites, posted on August 9, 2010 was short and sweet … a video of on of my favorite tunes, So Into You by the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Sweet indeed. And unusually short for Older Eyes.
Since then there have been a lot of musical favorites, probably too many for some of my readers. There’s been rock, jazz and classical music. There have been favorite artists, too, like John Williams playing Cavatina (often known as the theme from The Deer Hunter),
and favorite artists like Nita Engle who paints lovely watercolors like Island Lake II
There have been serious books like Harold Kushner’s When Bad Things Happen to Good People and humorous books like Carl Hiassen’s Native Tongue. I’ve told you my favorite color (blue), may favorite number (three) and my favorite ice cream (Cherry Garcia). I’ve even told you my favorite shaggy dog story, Rollie Woolie. And I’ve told you the best day of my entire life, the day my wife Muri and I got pinned in college, a post inspired by the Best Day scene in one of my favorite movies, City Slickers, starring one of my favorite comedians, Billy Crystal.
It’s been fun. I hope a few of you have followed along and if you have, thank you. And I’ll see you with something else next Friday.
