Monday Smiles – 5/11/2015
Friday night our daughter and granddaughter slept over at out Little House in the Desert, while Dad and the boys went camping. Then Saturday night, we met the whole family a Nando’s Restaurant for Mexican food. Sunday, after church, they all came back to our Little House for Mother’s Day and easy day of pizza, sports on TV and, of course, lots of talkative kids. It was a very nice Mother’s Day weekend. But …. even though we had Saturday and Sunday nights free, Muri and I were too tired for Date Night.
Tomorrow, we will pick up our close friends, Rita and Barry at the Phoenix Airport and drive to lovely Sedona for a mini-vacation together. So, this Arizona Monday will be a pack-day, a rest-up-from-the-weekend day. It will also be a Date Day. Muri and I will do a little shopping together, then have lunch at Paradise Bakery and catch a movie, probably The Avengers. Nothing like a romantic date-flick, right? But in so many ways, what we do on our date doesn’t matter. For almost fifty years, through ups and downs, joys and sorrows, we have had a date every weekend. It is a reminder that despite life being in session around us and all the people, places and things demanding our attention, we are first and foremost that same couple whose life together started with a single date fifty years ago.
That’s worth remembering. Celebrating. And smiling about. It’s Monday and I am.
